Hi friends! Happy Thursday!
Is anyone else’s short week seeming pretty jam packed?
I worked Tuesday/Wednesday and am excited to have the next two days off. Work days are SO darn full over here. I started this blog with hopes of helping people find balance in there life and inspiring them to live more simple.
Lately, I’ve been wondering…am I doing that?! Often I think, how do mamas and daddy’s work full time and have any semblance of balance? When I get home from work, we play with Max, make sure he has dinner, give him a bath, and start his bedtime routine. Max has become an everyday bath type of kiddo because he gets pretty messy during the day, there is always some macaroni or something stuck in his beautiful hair. Last night this meant that Drew and I sat down to our own dinner at about 8:30pm. We usually eat as a family earlier, but Drew had to mow the lawn and I wanted to wait for him. It was REALLY nice to eat dinner with just my husband on our deck. The time wasn’t ideal, but the company and tacos very much were.
I’ve been reflecting on why life seems so full lately.
1) Maxwell. This is the best reason to be busy. We are still newer-ish (haha) to parenting, and so I guess I’ve just been waiting for things to slow down. It seems like the opposite as he gets more fun and active, sleeps a little less (sometimes just one long nap instead of 2. Overall, parenting makes life very full…there is always a little one that needs your attention, love, and time. 2) Work. My 3 day a week nursing schedule gives us a great balance of part-time working mama and stay at home mama. But, those work days sure are full…as I mentioned above. I have a very busy job and then come home to the sweetest, but busy little love bug and it can leave me feeling like I sort of ran a marathon by the end of the day (especially when I squeeze in a workout and/or blogging). 3) Launching a business and blogging. As I said above, sometimes I think…how to full-time working mamas do it?! But, then I have to remind myself that I’m in the middle of launching a business AND I’ve still been blogging two times a week. It would be silly if I didn’t add these two awesome, but time consuming items to the list. 4) Being pregnant. Okay, so I often forget that I’m pregnant. Sorry if you have terrible pregnancies, but this is my truth. I just don’t have any symptoms. But, I often have to remind myself…Amy, you are pregnant. That takes a little energy from you 😉
I wanted to share a story about last Thursday:
I was getting my eyebrows, hair, and makeup done at Arch last Thursday for a photoshoot for our business. Ya’ll I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it there. If you live in Madison you need to go for an eyebrow wax and tint, just trust me on this one. They do such an amazing job and you always leave feeling your best. Plus, Cera and Katie have become friends and I love going in to catch up with them. Cera, who owns Arch, was doing my hair and we were talking about my new business venture. I was telling her it was a lot more work than I initially estimated, but that I’m so passionate about it. Same with this blog. Both make my life full, but they also drive me to help and inspire others. I told her I think every single person needs something that makes them really excited to get out of bed in the morning (aside from the people you love).
Cera completely agreed that is important to be super passionate and that is how she feels about Arch. She has definitely experienced a full life/schedule feeling over the past couple years as she has launched her amazing luxury beauty boutique. We also talked about our husbands, and how supportive they’ve been in our business ventures. It truly does make all the difference to have your spouse cheering you on and understanding if your schedule is a little on the full side. Cera also keeps telling me that I need to send her the pictures when we get them back because she wants to share them and give us a shoutout on Arch’s social media. Which is SO sweet. She is all about supporting (especially) women run businesses. She said, if you really believe in the business…it is EASY to want to spread the word. I completely agree and always try to send people their way, because I love it there and think they are the best! The best part? She lives this! I always see her collaborating with other Madison businesses. Offering up her skills, or beautiful store space in the process.
So I wanted to say THANK YOU to Cera and Katie for being SO supportive of Krystle and I. For making us feel beautiful for our photoshoots (and events)! We love you two SO much and it is always a hoot to come in and see what comes out of Krystle’s mouth 😉
Our conversation reminded me of a book I recently read: Girl Code: Unlocking the Secrets to Success, Sanity, and Happiness for the Female Entrepreneur. I loved this book and it really did help me to see things in a different light. I’m SO glad I read it. Even if you don’t have a business, it helps you to understand how to not see other females as competition and even how not to compare yourself to others. I would HIGHLY recommend you add it to your summer reading list, especially if comparison is something you struggle with.
Lastly, I wanted to say THANK YOU to everyone that sent me suggestions for blog posts! I should ask ya’ll more often, because there were some AMAZING ideas. I’m going to use a lot of them, so look for those blogs coming soon!
Have an incredible weekend and look for some of your suggestions to come to life next week 😉 Always feel free to email me or Instagram message me more!
