Happy Tuesday! I hope you had an incredible Memorial Day Weekend.
On Saturday, we celebrated Maxwell turning ONE! If you’ve been reading along, you know that we are absolutely in love with being his parents. He continues to bring SO much joy to our lives. It is easy for me to picture the 3 of us back in that hospital delivery room, just falling in love for the first time. Max was new to the world, and Drew and I were new to parenting. Now we’ve all come so far. We have a stable, hilarious, sweet, cuddly, smart little boy. And the two of us have certaintly learned a lot about raising a little love, although I’m sure the next one will teach us a few more/different things 😉
ROAR: A Dino Themed Bash
We were lucky to celebrate Maxwell with our families and close friends.
First of all, we really could not have pulled off the party without the help of some very sweet people! We had a busy week leading up to the weekend, so come Saturday there was still a lot to do! Drew’s parents, brother, and our sister-in-law came up SO big for us. Drew’s mama, my sister-in-law/best friend combo Michelle, and I finished cleaning the house and Max’s baby book. We also decorated and made the food. The guys put together a swing that we just bought (which took them much longer than any of us had accounted for). And then Drew prepared all of the food for grilling. We were pretty much working right up to party time, so it is easy to say we wouldn’t have been able to pull it off just the two of us…with our sweet baby to also care for. Thank you to Robyn, Dan, Michelle, and Kody for the help!
Maxwell must’ve known it was a big day because he took a 3.5 hour nap. He was in such a fun and happy mood come party time. Because of the amount of people at the party, most of the time he was making sure that mama was within sight…but, I didn’t mind 😉 He was very affectionate the whole weekend with Drew and I, giving us plenty of hugs and kisses…like he was saying, “it’s okay, I’m still little.”
Thank goodness that it turned out to be a beautiful sunny day for our grill out. The forecast had gone back and forth all week, so I decided to stop paying attention and hope for the best. It turned out to be the best! It was high 70s and sunny come party time.
Max’s party was dinosaur themed because pretty much ever since he was born Drew has been making dinosaur noises at him. Now that he is older, he absolutely loves it…it is kind of their thing. That’s how the greet each other and it is adorable to watch. SO it was pretty easy for Drew and I to decide dinos were they way to go. It was fun to see so many of our friends and family play along, our friend Billy even came dressed with a blow up Yoshi attached to his front side. It is amazing what someone can get on Amazon for $8 😉
For Max’s smash cake/cupcakes, I had my friend Diana make them! She recently started her own bakery business: To Di For. I was SO happy to finally have the opportunity to support her! Ya’ll, she is rocking it! We got many compliments on how good the cupcakes were. So if you are in Madison, check her out! As Max was “smashing” his little cake, Michelle commented…”This is literally the neatest I’ve ever seen him eat.” He was just kind of scooping the frosting into his mouth with his fingers.
I purchased most of the decorations months ago, and then picked up a few things along the way. Once I had a theme and color scheme, I love decorating and was thrilled how Max’s party came out. My favorite was the cupcake toppers from Etsy. I also loved the dino cutouts and brown RAWR! sign that we found at Hobby Lobby. They are going to follow Max into his new big boy room as we’re keeping the nursery pretty much the same for the next baby. The balloons were a last minute add when I saw them at the grocery store the morning of, and they were the biggest hit of the whole party. Max and Brooke played with them forever.
Drew grilled amazing food, and I think everyone left with a very full belly! Compliments to the chef!
The most important thing was spending time with our family and friends. It was SO fun to celebrate our little guy with the people that have really supported us in our first year as a family of 3. Since Max was born, many of our friends have added little additions…so our parties definitely have a lot more babies than they used to, which I love. There is constantly someone spitting up or having a blowout! Haha!
Yesterday I asked Drew if we could ever top this party for our next kiddo and he said, “Only if we can get Snoop Dogg”…so basically no. But, we’ll try to make it just as fun and vibrant little one.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for all of our friends and family for helping us celebrate. And a huge thank you to all of you for reading along as we navigate this parenthood thing. It has been our best year yet and we’re excited to try this whole two kiddo thing!
