Happy Thursday! Hope you are having a fantastic week. Maxwell and I are on the mend from our colds, thank goodness because that was a very snot filled couple of days 😉
As you may know if you’ve been following along for a while…I’m not much of a planner. But, I’m SO excited for baby #2 to arrive…that I’ve started brainstorming what we need. Our babes will be 18 months apart, so I’ll definitely need helpful items to balance both of these littles. If you are new to the blog, or having your first baby a great post to check out would be Baby Registry: Everything You Really Need.
It’s nice because we already have a ton of baby stuff. We’re actually going to keep the nursery the nursery, and move Maxwell down the hall into a big boy room. This way we’ll be able to keep the crib, rocker, changing table, etc set up! I want to change out just a few pieces of decor to make it special for baby 2, but it’ll definitely have the same overall look.
I haven’t done a financial health blog post in a loooooong time, but Drew and I are still striving to be the most fiscally responsible we can be! So I would be remiss not to share the ways we plan on saving money on these new items! I know a lot of bloggers make it look like spend, spend, spend…but, that isn’t our motto over here.
Tips for Saving Moola on Baby Items:
Garage Sales: Drew and I live in Waunakee, and the famous Waunakee Garage Sales are coming up…that is one reason I wanted to prepare this list! SO many of the really nice neighborhoods participate (I’m trying to say expensive houses which typically equals expensive and nice baby stuff). Last year we snagged some really cheap baby gear (like an extra car seat base for $10…as compared to $84 on Amazon!) and we will be looking to do the same this year! It totally depends on your “used” comfort level, but if can be well cleaned and looks gently used…I’m in! Drew teased me last night because I used to think the newer the better, but since we had SO many borrowed or gently used items for Maxwell I’ve changed my tune. There is always some gently used baby gear waiting to help another mama keep her sanity at these sales 😉 Look for one near you!
Sharing is caring: I also have a couple friends/my sister that keep letting us borrow gear as we rotate between having babies. I just can hardly justify spending SO much on new baby gear when they grow out of it fast. For Max we borrowed the Fisher-Price Rock ‘n Play Sleeper and the Step ‘n Play Piano which were both total scores! They were cleaned and returned and we’d love to borrow them again 😉 Our friends moved away and gave us a few items and the family my friend nannies for is moving and giving us items too (like the mamaRoo….what?! She is done having babes).
Kohl’s Safety Center: So I did a little research and there might be one near you, so check! We have one at the American Family Children’s Hospital in Madison. From their website: “The goal of the Kohl’s Safety Center is to offer a variety of child safety products and injury prevention education materials to families at the American Family Children’s Hospital and throughout Wisconsin. At the Kohl’s Safety Center, you can shop for products, receive educational materials and ask our trained staff questions about child safety. Most items are less expensive than at local retailers.” They have a ton of really awesome items, they put things like strollers together FOR YOU, and the staff is SO friendly. Everything from baby gates, to carseats, to strollers! I price compared the BOB Double Strollers at the Safety Center versus Amazon and here is how it looks: for the BOB 2016 Revolution PRO Duallie Stroller: Kohl’s Safety Center $539, Amazon $689. For BOB 2016 Revolution FLEX Duallie Stroller $499, Amazon $639, Target $639.99. Totally worth the trip, especially since I work at UW Hospital and it is connected to the Children’s Hospital. 😉 Although when I told my husband the price he definitely had sticker shock!
Take Advantage of Insurance Programs: Our insurance gives us a free breast pump (and a nice one at that: Medela Pump In Style Pump!) for attending all prenatal appointments, even the second time around! We took full advantage of this last time, and will do it again! I’m going to just leave a pump at work, but you could also sell it if you didn’t really have a need for two.
WISH LIST FOR BABY #2:
BOB 2016 Revolution FLEX Duallie Stroller: I’m lucky because I’ve got to test drive this one. My friend that is a nanny and I always go for walks together and use her double wide for the two babes! It is SO darn nice and I even started jogging to see if that was going to be possible. It handles well, has sun blockers that actually come far enough down to block the sun, and is just the perfect stroller for an active family. This is a must for me.
DockATot Deluxe Dock(0 to 8 months): Maxwell sleeps in his DockATot Grand Dock (9-36 months) every single night. I would love to get the smaller deluxe version for the second babe. Hopefully this will help for those long newborn nights!
Tranquilo Mat: Can you see sleep is already on my mind? Of course newborns just need their mama (or dada) in the middle of the night when they are SO itty bitty, but anything that might help is welcome in my book. This is another Shark Tank find (because hello, we watch Shark Tank just about every single Friday). The founder is a former labor and delivery RN!
Graco Simple Sway Baby Swing: We went without a swing for Maxwell, but I think it’ll be really nice to have one come baby #2 since I only have one set of arms.
Keekaroo Peanut Changer So, yeah…we’re going to have two littles in diapers. I think this will definitely be worth the investment. The first time around I guess I didn’t really get why this one would be so good to have…but, after a few of Maxwell’s messy diapers…I totally see WHY!
Fawn Diaper Bag: This is way more of a want than a need. But, I would love to add one more diaper bag to the collection. I think it would be really nice and I’m sure that we’ll need to bring plenty of stuff.
Toddler bed: We’re definitely hoping to find a used one since we have a bed for Maxwell for when he is bigger! We’re also thinking of getting sides for that bigger bed. Let me know if you have any tips on that!
Any thing major you think I missed? I’ll definitely add it to our garage sale list 😉
Have a great day!
