Happy Thursday! Hope everyone is having a great week so far. Drew and I had the day off together yesterday. In the morning one of our best friends Nya came over to watch Maxwell for a little bit, and we headed to brunch together. Nya has a 3 month old and when we came back she was breastfeeding her baby and attending to Maxwell who was in his highchair with a sippy cup of breastmilk and goldfish. It was the cutest sight and we’re so thankful to have a friend that encouraged us to take our time and enjoy our time together.
From time to time I check out other fitness/health blogs to get inspired. Have I told you guys that I’ve been a huge blog reader for A LONG TIME?! I love them. I love getting to know the blogger and reading about their take on style, health, wellness, whatever it is. I’ve definitely been a religious reader of a few blogs in the past, so when someone tells me they read each one of my posts it REALLY warms my heart!
Anyway, what I see when I look at inspiration is an enormous continuum of health.
I was on Blawde (Annie Lawless’ blog) and reading a post about how she had to either starve or eat Subway, it was a dire choice for her. And here I am thinking, I literally just CHOSE to eat a footlong chicken breast sub from there on Sunday. Drew and I were SO hungry and lazy. She is an incredible blogger and she definitely is WAY more discipline in her eating than I.
I write all of my own workouts since I have a background in exercise science/personal training. I love to hop onto Alexia Clark’s Instagram to get some new ideas. Holy cow ya’ll! I can workout 5x a week no problem, but there is no way that I can workout as LONG as she does. And it pays off, she looks absolutely amazing. Follow her for some really good workout ideas and BEWARE that she has the best workout clothes of all time and it may cause you to endlessly search for your own pair of Nike Free Connect – Women’s (just purchased my second pair yesterday, don’t worry…I told my husband!).
I visited a few other sites too! What I took away from it is that it is easy to look at someone and think, what the heck am I doing? Comparison can be a funny thing. There is always going to be someone that is being healthier than you. We all have such different goals and bodies, that even if you did the exact same thing is someone else…you would come out with a different result.
We each need to look inside of ourselves and figure out what “living healthfully” looks like. There are some of us that love to workout and can fit it in 5 days a week. There are others that despise it, but they know it is good for them and will try to fit it in. Still others might be coach potato status.
There are people that want to count every macronutrient they put into their bodies or weigh each piece of food. Maybe that is you and you love it. There are others that want to come at eating from an approach of learning what good picks are and mostly picking the right things. While others might not be paying any attention to what they are consuming.
I’m not saying we can haphazardly define what health is, but I’m saying that we have to figure out what works best for each of us. I’m never going to eat as perfectly as Blawde does, but I can seek to learn more and improve on what I’m doing. Pick up a tip or two from her. I’m probably never going to workout as long as Alexia Clark, but I can sure as heck make the best of the time I have in the gym and add some of her amazing functional fitness lifts into my workouts (and snag some shoe ideas).
Don’t let comparison get the best of you, let it help you get the best of yourself. Get inspired. Learn a thing or two from other people.
Health is a continuum and we’ve got to figure out exactly where we fall and where we can go from there. Seek to improve my friends! Don’t let the journey or where someone else is overwhelm YOU!
I’m over here working out 5x a week, trying to eat more plant based foods, but also having a celebratory piece of pie on a Wednesday with my husband. Because that’s balance, and it was SO darn good.
Have a great weekend my friends!
