Hi friends! Happy Thursday!
“…calling you to leave behind the heavy weight of comparison, competition, and exhaustion, and to recraft a life marked by meaning, connection, and unconditional love.”
I saw that my friend Kirstie was reading Present Over Perfect: Leaving Behind Frantic for a Simpler, More Soulful Way of Living by Shauna Niequist. I immediately reached out to see if she recommended it. I’ve heard several people speak highly of the book + decided I wanted to jump in myself.
I’m excited for what is to come because the short sample that Amazon let me preview after purchasing had my wheels turning. I’m a bookworm at heart + love to read things that will positively influence my mindset.
The first couple thoughts spurred from my read:
Why is it that so many people feel stuck in the way that they are currently living? What changes can we make to improve our lives before we are looking back years from now still on the same hamster wheel of busyness? Most likely we will/would be wondering, why didn’t I change earlier? Are we prioritizing what is truly important in life or giving too much weight to things that are not?
As a blogger, it is SO important to me to stay in my own lane. I read a quote today that I can only paraphrase, but it said something like if you are doing what everyone else is doing, you are doing it wrong. Many of the bloggers I follow on the internet + Instagram are lifestyle bloggers. They take incredible pictures of perfect outfits with their sweet children looking directly at the camera. Most of their posts have the purpose of selling the reader clothes or inspiring their outfit choice.
I love their blogs. I’ve followed, supported, + purchased from them.
For me, my burning desire is to inspire people in a different way. To spread the good news of health + wellness. To uplift a person’s day. To help them get into a more positive + healthier space. To support them when they are going through a tough time (ex. struggling to get pregnant).
So no, my posts + pictures will not be as pretty as theirs. And, that’s okay. More than okay. That’s my own lane.
Is there a place where you are making an unfair comparison? We often do this to ourselves. Are you running around trying to be everything to everybody or filling your plate too full…only to be left exhausted? That’s not sustainable for anyone.
I cannot wait to share more inspirations as I read the book. All of this came from about 10 pages.
Today I’m keeping this post short + sweet because the littlest love of my life is sick. Maxwell has had a cold for a couple weeks + over the past couple days his cough has became pretty bothersome (for all of us…poor little guy). All yesterday I gave him SO much momma love + attention. In the afternoon, I called his doctor just to make sure there wasn’t something more we could do. His doctor’s nurse wanted us to come in (Max hasn’t been eating much at daycare) + get Maxwell checked out since he is still pretty little. The good news is they think it is just a viral bug that will resolve on its own. The bad news is his cough was the worst it has been last night + he needed lots more momma snuggles before we could get him down for the night.
The most important thing in life is your people. My little person needs me.
Hope you have a terrific weekend! A blog that I have been working hard on + am almost finished with is a complete baby registry! Look for that soon.
