Hi friends! Happy Thursday.
After a busy + wonderful weekend, I’m currently on a stretch of nursing shifts (3 days on, 1 off, 2 on).
The stretches of work are tough because 1) I really crave Maxwell time. I miss taking care of my little babe + spending the day with him. He also goes to bed early now (between 7:30-8pm), so the hours with him after work are numbered. 2) The night goes very fast. Between washing, sanitizing, + repacking all the pumping parts, working out, eating dinner, taking care of + snuggling Maxwell, blogging, trying to keep the house semi together, packing my lunch for the next day, + spending time with Drew…it can be full to the brim.
But this part of life is beautiful. I still stare into Maxwell’s big brown eyes + remember when I was heavily pregnant with him, wishing he would be here. I would imagine what the baby would look like, what gender “it” was. And now that he is here, I cannot get enough of him. He is the sweetest baby + as I’ve mentioned we are loving this phase of his little life. I’m surely not wishing any time away.
My strategy for this busy season/next few years of life is to prioritize. I do my best to put Max + Drew time at the very top of the list. Working out is also an item I fit into my daily routine. Lastly, I strongly believe in getting into bed before 10pm (usually before 9:30pm) on a work night.
Let me take this opportunity to do a little plug for sleep! Sleep is an enormous component of our health. It allows us to recover + reset. Here is a blog I wrote with more details. I find myself in a daily conversation with a coworker about sleep. Someone will mention how tired they are + I say, “well what time did you go to bed?” The last person said, “1am”. ? I told this sweet coworker (+ blog reader) that I make sure to get in bed by 9:30pm + slightly panic if I cannot since that work day alarm clock comes around early. I know I’m the best version of myself if I’m well rested.
Everything else, including blogging fills the spaces in between or gets saved for my off days.
This little post was mainly strung together between the important stuff. Some on my computer + a lot tapped out on my phone after a too close to my alarm going off to go back to sleep nursing session.
As I’m posting this, Drew is doing hill sprints in the dark to get a workout in + I’m pumping + posting…because this is parenthood.
I hope that everyone has a great weekend! Go Pack!
