Hi friends! Happy Tuesday.
First things first: The Bachelorette last night! I thought for the most part JoJo has a really great + good looking group. The premiere always serves as a don’t drink too much or you look like an idiot reminder. 😉 My favorites: Jordan + Luke.
Today, I simply wanted to talk about the end of pregnancy + the wonderful Madison weekend Drew + I enjoyed.
When you get to this point (39 weeks + 5 days), you are SO excited to meet your baby. And now that it is fully baked, it can be a little challenging to be patient. But, we’re certainly doing our best. I keep praying, “Please Lord keep this baby safe. And whenever it is in your will God, let he or she bless us.” The baby + the Lord know when it is time + their timing will be perfect. Unless there timing is at 42 weeks. 😉
Even though this is the mindset I try to keep, I vacillate between patience + impatience. From thinking I could be headed in the direction of actual labor to thinking the baby will never be here. For me personally, I think the mental toll of the last little stretch is more challenging than the physical. Physically I still feel pretty darn great for almost 40 week pregnant woman. My biggest issue is that my hands/forearms + feet get swollen. I also have numbness + tingling in both hands + all fingers. It feels the same as if you sleep on your arm + when you wake up it feels all weird + tingly…just constantly. But, as I keep saying I’m so thankful to be this close to meeting our baby that these little annoyances are more than worth it.
I’m really glad that I decided to leave work at 39 weeks. It was getting really hard to open medications + perform nursing skills with these uncooperative hands. A few curious co-workers would say, “Are you sure you want to leave early…aren’t you going to be bored just waiting?” There are few things I’ve been more sure of, I think you just kind of know when it’s time. I also don’t believe in boredom. There are SO many things that feed me + make me happy + content. Blogging, working out, catching up with a friend + reading to name a few. I also have been able to get things ready around the house + get a massage. The prenatal massage I had yesterday = pure bliss. I would highly recommend getting a massage at the end of the road!
I’m excited to introduce you guys to our little love bug, hopefully he or she doesn’t hold out too much longer. Official due date is Thursday.
This past weekend Drew + I took the advice of SO many great parents around us that told us soak in the time before your baby comes. Enjoy it. Spend it together. Spend time doing things you love. Although, we were both not so secretly hoping that we would become a family of 3 over the weekend. My 39 week appointment on Thursday got our hopes up a little bit that it would be very SOON + my OB was on call all weekend, so it would’ve been too perfect. 🙂 Instead we spent a weekend soaking in each other + the weather, with our cozy little baby still on the inside.
On Friday I headed to Devil’s Lake to hike with my sister, niece, nephew, + mom. It was quite the sight as we had a 39 week pregnant person, a mommy hiking with a baby on her back, an enthusiastic + sometimes frightened almost 5 year old, + a grandma that doesn’t hike too often. All in all, it was great to get out there + we all survived.
Saturday, Drew headed to golf 18 + have lunch with a friend. I enjoyed our local coffee shop that I absolutely adore + did some blog work. Afterward, I went on a long walk at my favorite trails: Pheasant Branch Creek Conservancy in Middleton + even RAN a mile. I haven’t run since about 36 weeks + something inside me just really wanted to. It actually felt really great + I promised that if the baby or my body didn’t like it, I would just stop + walk again. As always, it’s great for each of us to enjoy our hobbies separately + I wanted him to be able to get a round of golf in on such a beautiful day. Saturday night we went on a date to Graze + Kilwans (our favorite post-dinner treat) + watched the sunset.
Sunday we headed to church + strolled down to the Union afterward. We did yard work all day afterward. I really took a lot of water breaks + headed in early, but wanted to help + be outside with Drew for the most part. Sunday night Drew grilled a delicious dinner.
Loved the weekend with my wonderful husband. Hope you all had a wonderful weekend too. On Thursday the blog post is entitled Enthusiasm for Life, so stop back to check that out. -Ames
