Happy Thursday! It has been a busy, busy week over here. My first 3 nursing dayshifts are under my belt. I’m thankful for a smooth transition + to my co-workers that have been SO sweet, they are always checking in to see if I need help! I think one of my nursing assistants thought I was in labor at one point because I was practicing deep breathing. I love the new schedule, I just feel fresher + healthier being awake during the day as opposed to all night. It’s a huge bonus to sleep next to Drew + we’ve been able to wakeup at the same time + eat breakfast together to start our day.
Today marks our 37th week of pregnancy. The time goes by incredibly fast, but I also feel like I’ve been pregnant for a long time now. I was just telling my other preggo friend last night that pregnancy started to get a little uncomfortable for me at week 36. I cannot complain and I’m incredibly thankful I had such a smooth pregnancy! I am starting to feel some pregnancy symptoms at this point.
My late + not so great symptoms:
Pregnancy carpal tunnel: My left arm (especially hand + fingers) is very numb + tingly. It is a constant + nagging sensation. It usually doesn’t hurt, it’s just uncomfortable/annoying. It is kind of like when you sleep on your arm and it’s really asleep when you wake up. It makes tasks at work harder to do, especially opening pills for my patients! It should go away after pregnancy + my heart goes out to those that battle carpal tunnel on a regular basis.
Swelling: My left hand is also swollen + my feet/ankles will get a little puffy after work or at the end of the day. I cannot wear my wedding ring anymore, so that is a bummer + I cannot wait to get it back on after this little babe comes out.
Backache: My strong back held out for SO long, but alas this little babe is probably around 6 pounds now (according to my app + the OB’s best guess). I try to focus on my posture + my physical therapist gave me a couple stretches last week that I’ve been trying to incorporate.
Mood: Oh man, I really held it together for a LONG time…but, I’ve been pretty needy at night lately. I haven’t experienced a very emotional pregnancy + felt pretty much myself the entire time…until now. Recently I’ve cried because I was too hot before leaving for work + I cried because my husband was on his phone in bed + not rubbing my back. I’m literally giggling as I type those examples because they are SO ridiculous, but at the time the tears spilled out. Thanks to my wonderful husband for being understanding + obliging all the requests for back rubs. SO sorry for the less patient Ames 😉 The increased activity of dayshift, the weight gain, and the nagging issues above kind of catch up to me at the end of the day. I want to really enjoy time at home + with my husband the next few weeks, I think less plans will work in my favor 🙂
Overall: SO excited + cannot believe we get to meet our first baby SO SOON! I’m still able to work on my feet all day + workout, so it isn’t that bad. I didn’t want you guys thinking I breezed all the way to the finish line though, we’ve got to keep it real here.
Today I’m off from work + one of the things on the top of my to-do list is to pack my hospital bag! This is our first baby, so I’m not an expert! BUT, I did do my research: visited my favorite momma blogs + got advice from co-workers, friends, + my sister.
Much of the items were gifts from our Amazon registry. I’ve been singing the praises of the Amazon registry for a while now, so I think you know how I feel. Start yours Shop Amazon - Create an Amazon Baby Registry">here. 😉
Diaper Bag: In a last minute decision we decided to go the Skip Hop Chelsea Downtown Chic Diaper Backpack because we can wear it as a backpack. There is just SO much to carry when you have a new little one + we both agreed that we love when our carry-ons are backpacks vs. a satchel type bag. Much more comfortable.
Diaper Bag 2: This Gray Arrows Weekender Tote Bag is a little more casual/less structured + I’m actually borrowing it from baby for my hospital bag. Love the pattern + I’m sure we’ll need it down the road for more baby supplies!
My Brest Friend Original Nursing Pillow: Highly recommended by a lot of my favorite bloggers. It seems this is a little more form fitting + supportive than the Boppy. I’ll let you know how it goes!
Belly Bandit: My sister is actually borrowing me Belly Bandit Original . I’ve heard good things, so I’ll give it a whirl.
Nursing bras: This pretty one Le Mystere Sexy Mama Nursing Bra
+ this comfy one Lamaze Cotton Spandex Sleep Bra for Nursing and Maternity – Black, M.
Car Seat: My sister did a bunch of research for her little babe, so I followed her lead. We’ve heard great things about the clickable Chicco Keyfit 30 Infant Car Seat and Base. We were lucky enough to get the whole Chicco Bravo Trio Travel System at our shower.
Car Seat Cover: Absolutely love this one! So beautiful + it also works as a breast feeding cover. My sister stalked the Milk Snob website for me when I was in Hawaii to get this pattern that I wanted! It’s a small business + their inventory goes fast! Thanks for doing that Krystle, we love it!
Camera: I know I’m going to be like every new mom + want to take a gazillion pictures of our new addition. I love my Samsung WB1100F 16.2MP CCD Smart WiFi because the quality of pictures is higher than my iPhone.
Cell phone charger: I love this 10FT Nylon Braided Lightning USB Charging Cable Extra Long . I’ll need a charged phone to spread the good news.
Hospital robes: I’ve been living in these PinkBlush Maternity robes. They were too sweet + sent me this one. I also have 2 more + really want a lace trimmed one 😉
Lululemon capris + pants: They’ve fit all through pregnancy + I love, love, love them.
Comfy zip up: Comfort is key, I hear. 😉 This one is from Gap.
Maternity tanks: I’m packing a few basic black maternity tank tops. Blanqi Bodystyler Belly Support Maternity Support Tank Top + PinkBlush are coming with.
Other items (some pictured/some not): makeup bag, toiletries (including toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, deodorant, moisturizer, face wash, makeup pad removers, travel size body wash, dry shampoo, texturizing spray), flip-flops, socks, hair ties, brush.
I’m sure I’ll be adding to my bag if you have any suggestions! I hope you all are having a wonderful Thursday.
Blog posts coming up include a few awesome interviews + a review of new fitness gear I’ve tried (hint: Kate Hudson talked me into it).
Take care! Be balanced! -Ames
