Today, I wanted to do a quick blog about the importance of eating breakfast.
I LOVE breakfast and breakfast food. I’m telling you this growing baby inside of me has had more eggs than any other food. 🙂 I even request breakfast for dinner about once a week. This is not a pregnancy craving because breakfast food has always been my jam.
Time and time again, I run into people that do not take the time to properly fuel their morning. One of my best friends will tell me “I’m just not hungry in the morning.” My husband will most of the time just eat a banana and shovel a few spoonfuls of cottage cheese or yogurt in his mouth (straight from the container). I always tell him this is not enough fuel!
Skipping meals can actually make weight control more hard to manage. People typically tend to eat larger meals later in the day if they skip out on breakfast.
This is not me. “Not being hungry” has never stopped me from eating breakfast. I love to keep my energy and fuel up during the day, and for me this means eating often. Breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, and dinner is my typical routine. This also keeps me from eating large meals, so I can avoid feeling sluggish or full. Of course night-shift has the tendency to flip my schedule all around and make this a bit harder to manage. That’s a story for a different day.
I would much rather wake up 15 minutes earlier to make a good, hot breakfast. Hot is especially important for me in the winter! I find it is more satisfying at the time and also sets the tone for a healthy day. I make sure to combine carbohydrates, protein, and fats to make a balanced meal.
My go to:
-2 eggs, a piece of wheat toast, and a turkey sausage. It makes a wonderful breakfast sandwich. Sometimes I’ll add a 1/2 an avocado or mozzarella cheese if I’m feeling risky 😉
Other options in my rotation:
-Whole grain oatmeal with berries and a spoonful of natural peanut butter or walnuts mixed in.
-Berries with vanilla Greek yogurt and a spoonful of natural peanut butter or walnuts mixed in. **More of a summer delight for me, although I do keep this in my snack rotation all year round.
-If I’m truly in a rush, I will have an AdvoCare Meal Replacement Shake. Every flavor is good, but my favorites are Berry and Chocolate. I’ll add a banana in it for more calories 🙂
I hope that everyone is taking time to at least eat SOMETHING. And, maybe think about trying to wake up and make yourself a nice warm breakfast a day or two a week and see if it makes a difference for you.
I also make sure to start the day with a full glass of water and a coffee or a Spark as well.
Cheers to breakfast! Hope everyone is having a happy and healthy start to their week!
