Happy Wednesday friends! Hope everyone is having a great start to their week. I’m done with work until Monday! 🙂 I head to Dallas on Thursday to go to AdvoCare’s Success School. As I mentioned, it’s my first time and I’m pumped. If you are headed down, let’s connect!
As my soreness subsides from the MS 150, I’m still on a high from participating. It just feels good to a) give back and b) be part of a team of people. People working together to make a difference is a powerful phenomenon.
One thing I forgot to mention was how many different fitness levels participated. For me, it’s inspiring to see people that are in excellent shape…but, also inspiring to see people that are just beginning their fitness journey. Whether it was on the ride or at the gym…I always think…just keep going! You can do it, it’s going to be worth it. As I always say, it isn’t about looking a certain way. It’s about living in a healthy body and feeling your best.
It’s okay to be the rookie! Take it from me, nearly everyone on our team was more experienced than me in the cycling department. At no point did they make me feel unwelcome or stupid. They had SO many good pointers and tips for me. Wouldn’t it be nice if EVERY GYM experience was like this?! Lots of times what keeps people away from the weight section is that the feel intimidated by other people or nervous they are going to look like they have no idea what they are doing.
As I’ve mentioned in the past, whether its a gym, yoga studio, barre studio, running club, rock climbing facility, your personal trainer, etc….it is their job to make you feel welcome and help you grow your knowledge. You are their business, it wouldn’t survive without you. Even if you are a little nervous about it…go ahead and ask all of your questions! If you don’t know how a machine works, grab one of the workers and ask. That is what they are getting paid for and they should want to help you. If they don’t, consider taking your business elsewhere. These days there are plenty of options.
Before summer heads into the sunset, I’m focusing on spending as much time outside as possible (with sunscreen on of course). Yesterday Drew + I headed to Pope Farms to see the sunflowers in bloom. If you live in Madison, go see this field of sunflowers…it’s amazing! Tonight, we are going on a date downtown Madison. Heading to the terrace and a patio dinner. He suggested a movie, but I didn’t want to pass out more time outside!
Have a great rest of the week! Soak in some of the beautiful weather. -Ames
