Happy 4th of July weekend! Have I told you guys that I LOVE the 4th of July?! A weekend full of sun, boats, fireworks, good eats, summer cocktails, best friends, and family…what more do you need? I’m extra excited because last year I had to work (nurse life). I hope everyone has a great time celebrating. Be safe 🙂
I’ve heard so many people say that being healthy in the summer is easier for them than the rest of the year. That’s amazing! I can see it: there are a lot of fresh choices, you can grill your meat options, and you may be motivated by being in your swimsuit.
However, for me…summer has my kryptonite foods. Guacamole and tortilla chips, why can’t I control myself around you?! 🙂
As most of you are ready to head to a 4th of July celebration, here are a couple practical tips for not completely going off the deep end:
- Make the easy choices! There is always a fruit salad, vegetable, and a healthy grilled meat. Make a balanced plate out of this goodness.
- Treat yourself. I know I’m going to have chips, salsa, and guacamole. I’m more of a salty type of girl, so knowing that I’ll indulge here it makes sense to skip the dessert table. If you have a sweet tooth pick your favorite dessert and enjoy! In years past, I’ve had “a little” of everything and I end up full of food and regret.
- Think about what you drink. If you are of age and going to indulge, moderation is key. You may want to stay away from mixed drinks that are loaded with sugar and soda. Also, be sure to drink plenty of water in between drinks and throughout the day.
I hope you have a terrific weekend! -Ames
