Happy Friday friends!
If you have been reading for a while or are brand new– I wanted to say a quick THANK YOU! It’s been fun to watch the blog grow and it wouldn’t happen without you guys! Thank goodness more than my husband + best friend are reading along 😉
I’ve had the opportunity to talk about BalancedAmes a lot lately! I went to an awesome networking event called Tuesdays Together through The Rising Tide Society. From their website: It is our hope to cultivate a society of creative entrepreneurs who believe in community over competition and have a desire to lead with love. I love this. Community over competition. Supporting people + growing with them. This is exactly what I believe in + I’m glad to have already met some really great people through it. If you are a blogger, small business owner, boutique owner, artist, etc., etc…join us next time! I can send you the information. Tuesdays Together is happening all over the nation, so check out their website if you aren’t in the Madison area.
At the first meeting, I answered a lot of questions about BalancedAmes. Most in the room work in the wedding industry, but the women at my table were SO interested in learning more about the blog + the vision for it. Along with this, I also had a great chat with my good friend Kelly. This girl is a wealth of information! She works in PR for Gatorade + has a few coworkers with successful health and fitness blogs. One thing she emphasized was focus. One of her favorite things about her favorite blogs is knowing what you are going to get when you go there. Both of these experiences lead me to writing this blog today.
I started BalancedAmes as a way to share my passion for health, fitness, and balance. I want to empower individuals to make healthier choices + live a balanced lifestyle. I want it to be a place of positivity.
Another one of my visions is for people to care more about the words I type than how I look. Hear me out on this– so many bloggers and professionals in the health + fitness industry have their site covered in pictures with their shirt off, abs flexed, sweat dripping. People in the industry have a TON of pressure to look a certain way, and many are fueling this. In turn, doesn’t this add to the pressure that most women already feel when it comes to their body and looks?! I completely believe that personal trainers, nutritionists, health professionals should practice what they preach and look the part…but, does that mean perfection + an Instagram full of shirtless pictures? To me, no. I’m not striving for perfection. I respect myself, my husband, + you guys enough to not be half naked all the time.
I want to encourage YOU to meet YOUR personal goals + grow in your confidence + inspire you to live a healthier life.
Of course I will be sharing some of my personal goals + events along the way. We’re heading in a direction that is going to be more focused around the words I mentioned above: health, fitness, positivity, + of course balance. At first I wasn’t sure if you guys would be turned off by too much science talk– but, judging from the last post about cardio…you aren’t. Knowledge is power when it comes to your health, so keep tuning in for more focused and information loaded posts.
On Friday, I’m going to start incorporating some POSITIVE things that happen each week.
This week was awesome:
-I loved the triathlon! During the recap I forgot to mention the sense of community. When Kelly’s bike chain fell off, she said that every.single.triathlete. that passed her asked if she needed help. They were willing to jump off their bikes during the race to help a sister out. I LOVE that.
-Drew + I both had the day off on Monday. Along with longer vacations, we both love taking random days off to make long weekends (for me, super long nurse stretches off) every once and a while. If you don’t do this, you should try it! It is a refresher! The best part is being home and having time to spend together. Drew really wanted to get my Jeep professionally cleaned (perk of having a very clean husband), so I obviously agreed and we dropped her off for the day. During this time we bopped around Madison running errands, eating lunch at Colectivo, and going for a walk. Afterward, we headed to tour a gym. The owner was beyond nice and after taking a tour it was an easy decision. We are now Fitness for Success gym goers. It has a lot more equipment than our old gym + it is kept very clean (this is huge for a gym). We signed the waiver and even stayed to lift right away!!!
-I needed to get head-shots for a couple things I’m doing with the blog. After I reached out to my friend Maison, she took them the next day! She would not even consider letting me compensate her. She has been a huge blessing in my life + a big supporter of BalancedAmes from the beginning. This lady rocks + helped start Tuesdays Together in Madison. She has a clear passion for helping others. Love you girl!
-Wednesday I planned to get a lot of things done. But, I knew my off stretch was coming to an end and the sun + nice weather was calling my name. I texted my friend Carrie and in an hour we were off to hike a new spot: Gibraltar Rock in Lodi. Sometimes you just have to throw that to do list aside and enjoy the day! 🙂
Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
