Today on the blog you are going to meet my good friend Cate! Cate and I met attending DragonFly classes together. We sat near each other a couple times in a row, and struck up conversation. After class one day we had this really awesome conversation and have been friends ever since! She has a great weight loss story and I wanted you guys to hear it. The best part is that she did it in a healthy way and has maintained the weight loss. Cate also signed up to distribute AdvoCare after buying some products from me and loving how they made her feel. I’ll let her tell you more 🙂
Ames: How long was it between the before and after picture?
Cate: The before picture was taken during the summer of 2010 when I was at my heaviest, 178lbs. The after picture was taken during the summer of 2014, after a year of maintaining my goal weight. A: One reason I love Cate’s story is because she has done such a great job maintaining her new weight + lifestyle!
A: You look so great! How did you do it?
Cate: During the Spring of 2011 I decided that I was in need of a change. I had just gotten out of a bad relationship and I wasn’t happy with how I looked or felt. No longer when I looked in the mirror did I see the athletic girl I once was in high school. To be honest, I hardly recognized myself and couldn’t fathom how I let myself get this way. So one day, I made the choice to take matters into my own hands and to do something about it. At my heaviest I weighed 178lbs. Over the next two years, I put countless hours in at the gym. I started with Zumba which is what made me initially fall in love with fitness. I also hired a trainer and with her support I eventually lost 30lbs through working out alone. She had always suggested altering my diet to really see results but I had never taken her advice to heart. I continued putting in my time at various gyms and have met the most amazing people who have been such a support system throughout my weight loss journey. Two years ago when I joined Dragonfly Hot Yoga Studio, I met you and you told me about AdvoCare and what the products could do for me. I was hesitant Ames: most people are! but figured I had nothing to lose and was determined to shed the rest of the weight that exercising alone couldn’t get rid of. I did AdvoCare‘s 10 Day Herbal Cleanse A: New and improved version available now! During those 10 days I also used the AdvoCare products: Meal Replacement Shakes, Spark, Catalyst and OmegaPlex. In those 10 days I lost 10 lbs and saw the biggest change I had ever seen in my body. What I loved most about the cleanse was that it taught me what to eat and how much to eat so I have been able to successfully maintain my weight. When I was in Australia last year I trained at a CrossFit gym. Although I was at my strongest I had physically ever been, I wasn’t necessarily happy with what the scales said. When I got home I decided to start fresh and do AdvoCare‘s 24 Day Challenge. I didn’t necessarily have the weight to lose like I did before, but I was still able to lose 8lbs by the end of the Challenge. I now hover around 135lbs and am so happy with how I look and feel. Fitness has now become a major part of my life. I’ve ran in races and put up times that I never thought would be possible when I started this process. I try my hardest to maintain a healthy lifestyle that both includes clean eating and exercise! But I’m certainly not perfect! I do my best because basically I just want to feel good.
A: What is your favorite workout? I miss our workouts together 😉
Cate: Tough question!! Armed and Dangerous is probably my favorite right now. This class is a hard-core head to toe strength workout in a heated room. You hit every body part! I enjoy this class because it allows me to really push myself with how heavy I lift. It feels great when you hit a new PB! Sometimes though, especially after a long week of work, MadDance is my favorite class. It’s similar to a Zumba workout with both high and low intensity choreographed moves and plyos. This class is so much FUN! You don’t realize how great of a cardio workout you’re actually getting.
A: What does your typical workout week look like?
Cate: I typically workout 4-5 days a week at MadPower Training. With a heated studio and a variety of classes, I’m able to get my cardio, weightlifting and yoga in all at one place. Once the weather warms up, I’m hoping to add more running and bike riding into my weekend schedule. If anyone would be interested in checking out the studio, it’s at the Verona Athletic Center….first class is free!
A: Best advice for someone that is starting their weight-loss journey?
Cate: To remember that it is indeed a journey! My transformation didn’t happen overnight. It didn’t happen in a day, weeks or months, it took years. Don’t set false expectations, don’t compare your journey to someone else’s and don’t be hard on yourself or throw in the towel if you don’t see results right away. Your body IS changing, regardless of what the scales may say when you adopt a healthy lifestyle. Instead of weighing yourself daily, do your clothes fit looser than they did before? Do you have enough energy to get through the day? Are you sleeping through the night? Is your skin clearing up? If you can answer yes to any of those questions you’re on the right path, the scale will catch up eventually.
A: How were you introduced to AdvoCare and why did you start distributing it?
Cate: You introduced me to AdvoCare! And for that, I’m forever grateful! It’s changed my life and how I view food. It’s taught me how to fuel my body in the most efficient way possible which has led to me being in the best shape I’ve ever been in. I started distributing it because I figured, why not!?! Especially with how much I use the products. I’ve been so busy between my job and moving into a new house that I haven’t had much time to focus on my AdvoCare business. I’m hoping that one day I’ll be able to help people reach their weight loss goals by incorporating AdvoCare products into their routine. The extra income is great and I know if I really focused on the business maybe someday it would allow me to be a stay at home mom. But until then, I just want to help people feel great about themselves and accomplish things they never thought possible. A: Cate or I could definitely give your more information about taking products or signing up to be a distributor! Reach out if you are interested at all and we’ll get you on the track that’s best for you! firstname.lastname@example.org
A: Favorite AdvoCare products?
Cate: Spark, Meal Replacement Shakes and Catalyst. A: I love all of these and use Spark + Catalyst daily. I start every morning with Spark and usually have another serving by early afternoon. I’m not a coffee drinker, so the extra boost of caffeine is crucial to start my day. I wish I had known about Spark in college when I was highly addicted to Diet Coke! This is certainly the best caffeine alternative. After I have Spark, I typically have a Meal Replacement Shake for breakfast. As a nanny, my mornings are spent focusing on the kiddos, so the shakes are easy and a good source of nutrition. Have you ever added some peanut butter and a banana to the dark chocolate shake? YUM! Not to mention you can make cakes out of some of the flavors. Let me know if you want the recipe. I swear by Catalyst before my workouts, especially if I’m lifting weights. I feel like I’m more toned than I’ve ever been and I contribute a large part of that to taking this supplement.
A: Favorite healthy meal?
Cate: Anything that includes sweet potato! They can be mashed, baked, roasted. Sweet potato fries, sweet potato hash. Seriously though, how great are sweet potatoes? Whether you like them sweet or savory, they compliment any meal. Add a protein and some veggies and you’ve got yourself a well rounded meal. A: Yes, sweet potatoes are at the top of my list!
A: Suggestion for a quick, on-the-go snack?
Cate: Trail mix is a great way to get your healthy fats in and sustain you until your next meal. You can mix any variety of unsalted nuts and seeds together depending on what you’re in the mood for. And to curb your sugar cravings, satisfy your sweet tooth by adding raisins, dark chocolate, or shaved coconut. To help with portion control fill a small 4oz container with the trail mix, throw it in your bag, and you’re good to go! That way you’re not tempted to go back for handful after handful.
Thank you, thank you, thank you girlfriend! Isn’t that a great story? She is such a positive example for readers that feel unhappy with where they are at. She decided to make a change and then went out and worked hard for it.
Excited for the post on Friday! I’m going to let you know how my assessment session with Nick goes! Hope everyone is having a great week!
