Today on the blog you’re going to meet Kristi! I’ve known Kristi and her husband for years, and I wanted you guys to meet this kindhearted, successful, and positive lady. Kristi is also a nurse and we recently reconnected through our side businesses (AdvoCare & Rodan + Fields). Enjoy!
Ames: Introduce yourself.
Kristi: Hey all! I’m Kristi! I am a proud wife, mama, Christian, nurse, and dog-lover! I was born and raised in Minnesota, ventured out a bit, but am now here to stay! My husband, Brent, and I live in St. Paul with our two-year old, Charlotte, and our pup, Lucy! Life is pretty fantastic!
A: Tell us your FAVORITE thing about your nursing job.
Kristi: Well, working Labor and Delivery, there are so many great things about my job! I love meeting so many different families (all with a different story) and feel honored to be a part of welcoming their little one into the world! Being a support person for these families, and being part of the birthday party are two of my favorites!
A: How long have you been working the night-shift? Give us your BEST healthy living tips for lasting that long 🙂
Kristi: SEVEN years! I can’t believe it’s been that long! There’s no doubt that night-shift is tough on your body. Meal planning ahead of time and not letting “I work the night shift” be an excuse when it comes to staying active, have really helped me to stay healthy! When I have long stretches on, I make a point to have healthy meals and snacks on-hand! And I try hard to work out 3-4 times per week, even when I’m dreading it. Sometimes a nice workout is the big boost of energy I need to head into a night-shift! A: I love this. I love the idea of not letting night-shift be an excuse + making sure you have healthy meals and snacks ready when heading into a stretch.
A: I want to do a whole blog post about this subject, but what would be your #1 tip for brand new nurses?
Kristi: Looking back, I feel like there’s a lot to say! Most importantly, to remember that each day and every situation is a learning experience and to appreciate it all. I had a job shortly after I graduated, that I did not love, or like! I look back and realize how much I learned in those two years and how that experience has made me a better nurse! Say yes to an opportunity to better your career and make yourself a well-rounded nurse! Even if it’s not where you want to be forever or your ideal job!
A: I have to say, you have one of the cutest little families of all time. How has Charlotte changed your + Brent’s lives? Has she impacted the way you take care of yourself?
Kristi: Awww, thanks! Well, Charlotte changed our life BIG time! We are so thankful to be her parents and love her so much, but that doesn’t mean it’s always easy. Balance is a hard thing to find after having a baby. Home life, work, friends and family, healthy living, side job- there’s a lot to figure out. We’re still working on it every day. Brent and I both enjoy being active and living a healthy lifestyle. We stay active as a family outside, and also invest in a gym membership with a child care center! Charlotte loves going to play with her friends ;), and we love being able to work out together! My routine has definitely changed since Charlotte was born. I simply don’t have enough time for 2 hour workouts, 5 days per week! But, we are good about incorporating exercise into our fun time! Now we’re teaching her healthy eating and being active, by example. Something were both pretty passionate about. This morning she woke-up and said “Mama, walk pease?”. It’s fun. A: I love that Charlotte asked for a walk first thing 🙂
A: Your love of your dog is obvious on your social media. What is your favorite thing about her? (try to convince Drew here for me) 🙂
Kristi: Haha. Yes, Lucy is my girl! It’s an unconditional love, that’s for sure. I love that she’s so loyal to all of us. She’s always looking out for Charlotte, and always excited to see us! When one of us is sick, she won’t leave our side. It’s great! Also, she keeps us active! She loves being outside-walks, runs, hikes. She’s a part of our family! Think that’ll work, Amy?! 😉 But for real, she’s the best! A: Did it work Drew?! My husband reads every blog post on his own, so cute!
A: You look amazing! Was it tough to get back in shape after baby? What would be your best tip to new moms?
Kristi: Thank you! It takes time, but I’m a huge believer that (in healthy pregnancies) staying active and eating healthy, will pay-off postpartum! I stayed active through my due date, which made getting back into shape (and labor and pushing!) go pretty well. I was also very conscious of what went in, while I was pregnant with Charlotte! Don’t get me wrong, I loved my Old Fashioned glazed cake donuts, but also made sure to have enough of the good stuff! Fruit, vegetable, whole grain, dairy and protein servings were my focus.
A: Favorite healthy meal?
Kristi: Simple, clean, eating. Grilled chicken breast with roasted sweet potatoes and steamed broccoli.
A: Typical weekly workout routine?
Kristi: Cardio 3-4 times per week: elliptical, stairclimber, walking at an incline. Squats, kettle balls, free weights, planks, love my body bar and resistance bands! Pilates or Yoga 1-2 times/week. I’m kind of all over the place, but that’s what I love about being active-it can be so many different things! I’ve tried to love running many times. I know what an incredible hobby/activity/sport it is, but I’ve finally accepted that running isn’t my thing! I decided to stop pressuring myself. Someday? Maybe! 🙂
A: Favorite vacation spot?
Kristi: This is tough. Playa del Carmen and Grand Cayman. And Costa Rica! Europe? I LOVE to travel and really appreciate what different cultures and areas of the world have to offer. I have a long travel bucket list!
A: Let’s talk side businesses. I’m a customer of your growing Rodan + Fields side business (I’ve told Kristi this already, but my skin is in it’s best shape ever). What do you enjoy most about this business? What has it done for you and your family?
Kristi: Yes, so glad you’re loving your skin! To be honest, THAT is what I love most. For some people, skin problems are a life-long struggle. Some people have “tried it all” and others, don’t know where to start. Its so great to be able to help people feel confident and comfortable in their skin. All R+F products are clinically proven and award winning, so they actually do their job, making it exciting to see my customers so happy!
Business wise, R+F has been fantastic. I definitely didn’t expect it to turn into what it has. Brent and I have hit some big milestones, financially, thanks to the residual income. It’s so nice to earn the extra income, all from home, without taking time away as a mom and wife. If you have an opportunity like is, go for it! It’s been a fun ride. Looking forward to what’s ahead! A: Check out here website here: Kristi’s R+F site. Also, feel free to email her with questions email@example.com. I’m loving the Redefine line, my favorite products are the daily cleaning mask + overnight restorative cream.
A: You did an AdvoCare Herbal Cleanse and also purchased Spark. Did you enjoy these products?
Kristi: Yes! Loved the Herbal Cleanse. I did it at a time that I had totally fallen off track. It was perfect to get a fresh start and help me regain focus! Thinking about doing it again soon! Spark is great, it’s such a great boost of energy, with out the “hangover” that caffeine and energy drinks seem to leave. Thanks for recommending them! A: Of course, I love them too!
A: Give us your best tips for healthy skin.
Kristi: Outside of a skin care regimen, I always stress the importance of drinking enough water, having enough healthy fats in your diet (nuts and avocado are my two go-tos) and of course sun protection!
As far as product goes, it’s SO important to take care of your skin! Find a regimen that works for you and be diligent about it! An effective routine should have a cleanser, toner, moisturizer and sunscreen. Each step prepares your skin for the next step. Recently, I’ve had a lot of people around our age reaching out to prevent premature aging. So smart! Prevention and protection are important when it comes to getting and keeping your best skin! A: Sounds like I need a toner in my lineup 🙂
Isn’t she great?! I loved her answers! Plus, hearing someone successfully staying healthy on night-shift for 7 years was reason enough to get tips from this lady. Thanks again Kristi.
I hope everyone has a terrific Wednesday and rest of the week! 2 more night-shifts for me! Can’t wait for Fridays post, stay tuned!
