Today, you are going to meet some of my very best-friends + hear about one of the most memorable “workouts” of my life. These are the ladies that I asked to be a part of my wedding and are all so special to me.
The blog’s main photo was taken before our rehearsal dinner. I asked the gals of our wedding party if they would be willing to get into town early for nails, lunch, and then yoga before the rehearsal. Luckily, everyone besides my younger sister could (she is still in high school and had to take an AP test…smarty pants).
This was one of the best parts of the wedding weekend. I just loved it. I was able to spend time with these wonderful women and bask in the calmness before the whirlwind of the wedding.
For the session, I picked one of my favorite Dragonfly instructors. Her and I planned the session beforehand, we chatted about the variety in experience levels among the ladies, the music I wanted (cue the Beyoncé), and the fact that on the one session I could call the shots: NO chair poses 🙂 I also asked our wonderful wedding photographer if she would be willing to come at the beginning (before we started flowing) and take pictures. I saw a Pinterest picture that gave me the inspiration and gave Melissa an idea of what I was looking for. She agreed and I love what came out! Thanks to our instructor Carrie and photographer Melissa!
I thought it would be fun to ask the attendees what they thought! I told them to be honest and I really didn’t mind if they were not happy about being in a 90 degree room and getting their pictures taken. I was cracking up during the whole session (not my yogi baseline) because my friend Beth kept asking how much longer class was and making hilarious comments in the back row.
Reactions from the ladies:
Beth: “Please include the part about asking what time it was every 3 minutes and being hot as balls! It was my first hot yoga session. Get me in that steamy room now and you wouldn’t even recognize me. I almost did a pigeon-off with a stranger in Utah this weekend.” A: This one not the one she officially submitted, but too hilarious not to share 🙂
Maggie: “I was a little nervous going into the yoga when I heard it was going to be HOT and there was going to be a photographer…who looks good that sweaty? To my surprise, I actually had a pretty good time. I couldn’t help but laugh at some of our attempts at graceful yoga poses, while others had down right talent. It was fun to sweat it out and laugh with friends before the big celebration.” A: Beth and Mags kept asking if they were the worst bridesmaids all weekend. They showed up with crumpled dresses and rolled into the nail salon late with all their luggage. They are the best at keeping things lighthearted and were making me smile and laugh all weekend.
Michelle: “It was really nice to just relax and have a few laughs with good friends before all the hectic wedding morning prep!” A: So true.
Kelly: “With all of the celebrating, taking a few minutes for a fun, sweat session could not have felt better. It gets you in the right mindset too, for a great day ahead. How could you not feel the love in a hot room, full of friends, and the class is dedicated to two of your favorites getting hitched.” A: Kel is an experienced yogi and one of our favorite things to do together is workout, plus she works in PR 🙂
Marissa: “Being able to experience a private session of yoga with my best friend before her big day was such an amazing experience! That unique practice was a great way to bond with a large group of friends and bridesmaids who were all coming together to support Amy. I was bit by the yoga bug and now I practice on a regular basis at Dragonfly!” A: Marissa now attends Dragonfly classes more than I do! She is rocking her workouts, she also made a cameo in my workout buddies post 🙂
Lisa: “Wedding yoga was great! Besides the fact it was my first session back after having a baby (5 weeks prior) therefore I was a bit tight and very engorged, I loved it.” A: Lisa was a rock-star! Putting on a bridesmaid dress 5 weeks after having a baby?! She looked amazing and we couldn’t get enough of her and her baby all weekend.
Samantha: “Great idea by the bride. Our instructor was wonderful and made all us inexperienced yogis very comfortable. It was a really fun experience. I loved getting that time with the other maids, our friends, and the bride. Also, the pictures came out beautiful and it’ll be great memory we always have. I just wish we would’ve had more time to stay and not rush to get ready for the rehearsal dinner… whoops!” A: Haha, trying to fit too much girl time in. As seen below we did clean up nicely and were on time 🙂
Krystle: “It was a great way to step back during a busy couple days to take some time to enjoy the bride to be with all her best pals by her side. It was fun having various levels of yoga masters in there making it fun and goofy.” A: Yes! Definitely a variety of experiences.
I enjoyed the rest of the weekend with these wonderful ladies!
If you are getting married I would highly recommend taking some time away from the chaos to do something you really enjoy with your friends. With everyone’s busy lives, it is really hard to all be in the same place at the same time…so, it was so awesome to make the most of our time together. Special thanks to the ladies, who were so supportive and positive throughout the entire wedding experience. Giving me memories that will never be forgotten…except for a few Nashville Bach party details. 🙂
Have a great week everyone! I’m heading into a stretch of a few nights…so, I”ll be nocturnal.
